About me

Integrative Psychology and Therapy

My name is Ruta Gabalis, and I am an integrative psychological therapist working primarily online with clients in the UK and internationally, alongside limited in-person work in the UK.

My work is grounded in a simple but deeply held belief: that people make sense when we take the time to understand them in context. My practice is grounded in UK professional and ethical frameworks, and I work with people who value thoughtful, relational psychological therapy, whether they are living locally or across borders.

I am a psychologist and counsellor working integratively, which means I approach therapy through a psychological lens while holding the whole person in mind — thoughts, emotions, bodily experience, relationships, and life history. Rather than focusing on symptoms in isolation, I am interested in how patterns develop, how they are sustained, and what becomes possible when they are understood with care.

Clients often describe me as calm, thoughtful, and quietly attuned. I work relationally and at a pace that supports safety and depth, creating space for reflection rather than rushing toward solutions.

My Professional Background

My training began in psychology and developed through counselling and integrative therapeutic work. Over time, my practice has evolved toward work that is firmly psychologically grounded, ethically held, and responsive to the complexity of human experience.

This background allows me to work with individuals, couples, and parents in a way that is both structured and flexible — informed by psychological understanding while remaining sensitive to emotional, relational, and embodied experience.

Over time, alongside therapeutic work, people have also sought me out for reflective conversations when responsibility feels heavy or when clarity is difficult to reach. This has included professionals, practitioners, and individuals navigating complex decisions or ethical pressure — often in contexts where there is little space to think aloud.

This way of working draws on the same qualities that shape my therapeutic practice: attention to relational dynamics, an ability to sit with uncertainty, and a respect for complexity that cannot be reduced to quick solutions.

I continue to develop my work through ongoing professional training, supervision, and reflective practice, ensuring that what I offer remains thoughtful, ethical, and responsive.

How I Work

A reflective space for complex thinking and human experience
Session Structure & Practicalities

I do not offer quick fixes or prescriptive advice. Instead, I work collaboratively, supporting clients to explore experience, meaning, and patterns with curiosity rather than judgement.

Depending on the nature of the work and what we agree together, sessions may include reflective conversation, psychoeducation, attention to emotional and relational patterns, somatic awareness, or guided inward-focused processes. All work is consent-led and paced carefully.

Whether working with an individual, a couple, a parent, a professional or an organisation, my role is not to tell you what to do, but to help create the conditions in which understanding, choice, and change can emerge.

Who I Tend to Work With

I often work with people who are thoughtful, reflective, and inwardly complex — those who may understand themselves well on a cognitive level, yet feel something is still unresolved or difficult to shift.

This includes:

  • individuals experiencing anxiety, low mood, or inner conflict

  • couples navigating relational strain, communication difficulties, or transitions

  • parents seeking a deeper understanding of their child, alongside a clear, step-by-step approach that feels humane and realistic

  • professionals or individuals carrying sustained responsibility, who need space to think clearly when complexity, pressure, or ethical weight leave little room to reflect

You do not need to have clear answers or a defined problem to begin. Often, a sense that something wants attention is enough.

Scope of Practice

My work sits within an integrative psychological framework. I work ethically, within my professional scope, and in collaboration with other professionals when appropriate.

Sessions are offered online (via Zoom) and in person from my therapy room in Brentwood, Essex, just outside London,  depending on what we agree together.

Professional Memberships

I am a registered member of the following professional bodies:

  • British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

  • National Counselling and Integrative Psychotherapy (NCIP)
